Strange clay exhibition

Beate Kuhn

His work gives me a feeling of vitality.

David Zink Yi

His work is what I think is the best of all the exhibitions this year. His mastery of glaze can be said to be excellent, and he is also the most important person who aroused my interest in glaze.

Grayson Perry

As our headmaster, this is also the first time for me to see his works up close. I was always curious about what technique he used until we learned how to transfer on ceramic. It was only later when Grayson Perry came to tell us about his work that I learned that most of his work was made from coiling.

Ceramic magazine

some interesting pages found in the school library

I find that reading ceramic magazines is the easiest way to expand my knowledge of ceramics and learn about artists. I still remember that the inspiration for my project in the second unit was when I saw the work of Hitomi Hosono in a magazine.

White Porcelain of Ding Kiln

A couple of things I find most interesting.

Ding Kiln is one of the five famous kilns in the Song Dynasty, in the territory of Dingzhou, so the name “Ding kiln”. The kiln site is located in the area of Jianzi Village and Yanshan Village in Quyang County, Hebei Province. Ding kiln was created in the Tang Dynasty, after five generations, reached its peak in the Northern Song Dynasty, although production in the Yuan Dynasty, it still ended in the Yuan. Famous for producing white porcelain, thin and light, hard texture, white color, not very transparent.

Porcelain pillow:

This is a modern porcelain vase, it should use the technique of jumping knife. The glaze is very warm and moist, and the whole looks like jade. The carving pattern is clearly visible, but does not make people feel obtrusive, looks like a dragon wrapped in glaze.

V&A

hand painted textures:

I have observed that hand-painted patterns are basically related to people’s lives, which is equivalent to using ceramics as the carrier of illustration to keep it for a longer time.

Chinese porcelain:

Most of the patterns on Chinese ceramics are flower and bird patterns that symbolize good meanings.

This is one of my favorite pieces, it has beautiful patterns and layers like paper carvings.

The following set of works let me see more possibilities of ceramics. It can be a combination of traditional Chinese patterns and new printing techniques.
